Today we’re sharing some adorable Under the Sea Child’s Party Theme Ideas from our granddaughter, Laila’s 1st birthday party. Recently she turned one and we were not surprised that Chelsea and Kenny chose an Under the Sea theme, because Chelsea has loved the Little Mermaid movie and the Weekie Wachee Park in Florida, since she was a young girl.
Shown here is Chelsea and her mermaid friend at Weeki Wachee many years ago when she was young. If you visit Florida you should check out Weeki Wachee. It has a water park, river cruise, a mermaid show and more! We took our kids there quite a few times and they always loved it.
John and I, along with our son, Andy and Kenny’s Mom, Landa and his brother, Luke all flew in for Laila’s 1st birthday. We all arrived a couple days before the party to help them prepare and setup. Kenny’s other brother, Philip and sister-in-law, Cynthia live in Washington state and helped us too.
Because the party was such a success and everyone had so much fun, I thought I would share some of their Under the Sea Child’s Party Theme Ideas with you!
~ Laila ♥ The Guest of Honor ~
Laila was an angel all day at her 1st birthday party. Isn’t she adorable and her smash cake was absolutely beautiful! Chelsea and Kenny’s friend, Jen made this cake. The color was perfect and it tasted absolutely delicious too!
This was our daughter Chelsea at her 1st birthday party. She made this funny face with every gift she opened – so adorable!
I thought it would be fun to show you a picture of Laila’s Daddy, Kenny too when he was a year old. What a cute little guy!
~ The Decorations ~
Kenny created this adorable invitation using Photoshop. The write-up is witty and the pictures of Laila are well, gorgeous!
The moment the guests walked in, they were surrounded by Under The Sea oceanic touches. Kenny and his Mom, Landa are very talented and made most of the decorations themselves.
The seaweed is made from streamers, the crabs and fish are made from colored paper plates with construction paper cutouts and the seahorses are also made from construction paper cutouts.
Our kids found the perfect table clothes at the Dollar Tree store, which also had matching plates, napkins and cups. This was a real find and made the tables look so nice. They added some colored glass beads, to look like water bubbles and you can’t see the sea shells that well, but we brought some from Melbourne Beach, that they scattered on the tabletops as well.
Here’s a close up of the shells we found on the beach. We were walking on the beach one Sunday afternoon and couldn’t believe how many beautiful shells we found and haven’t seen that many since. We feel like it was a small gift from God that day. It’s the little touches that make a party scape really stand out from the rest.
Their friend, Jen made Laila’s 1st birthday cake, along with her smash cake and they beautiful and absolutely delicious, great job Jen! Of course, being a foodie like myself, I had to get a few tips and tricks from her and she was sweet enough to share them with me.
Chelsea and Kenny made and decorated the cupcakes, then put homemade white chocolate decorations on top.
The inspiration cake: This was the cake Kenny found on Pinterest, that Jen (the lady that made Laila’s cake) got her inspiration from. But, I think Jen’s cake is just as pretty.
~ Family & Friends ~
Chelsea, Laila and Kenny at Laila’s Under the Sea party. Her little dress matched her cake and the party color theme, and it looks like ocean waves – so cute!
Uncle Andy, our son, with little Laila. We were so glad he was able to come and he sure loves her!
John, me and Andy, enjoying ourselves at the party!
Kenny, Laila and his Mom, Landa. The little bracelet Laila’s wearing was from Grandma Landa, it was really precious!
Laila is fortunate to have so many people who love her and want to be a part of her life. Many of the people in this picture are from Kenny and Chelsea’s church. Their pastor, Cal (light blue shirt) and his wife, Tina (aqua top with a red necklace) are amazing pastors and are very good to them.
Kenny and Chelsea love working with Pastor Cal and Tina. Kenny is their music and media pastor and Chelsea is leading a new project for their school of ministry.
Laila loved opening her gifts and Chelsea enjoyed watching her.
One of the gifts John and I gave Laila was a silver baby ring that we bought at St. Augustine recently, and it fit her perfectly.
John and I agree, Kenny and Chelsea are the best parents! They are patient, loving and so good to little Laila. She is blessed to have parents like them and they are blessed to have such a sweet little girl! Children are definitely a great blessing from God.
~ Finger Foods & Snacks ~
They served a delicious Seaweed Dip, also known as Knorr Spinach Dip, with crackers and veggie strips.
This snack is called “Turtle Eggs”. How clever to turn plain bananas into smiling, playful dolphins.
They also served some adorable Octo-Dogs. They were a big hit but unfortunately I didn’t get a good picture of them. So, I found these to share with you from Pinterest. Source
This little snack has nice bright colors and couldn’t be easier. Just put some candy worms in a bowl with a small scooper.
For this one, just take some light wheat bread, a star shape cookie cutter, along with some peanut butter and jelly and you’ve got yourself some PB & J Starfish.
Serve a cool & refreshing aqua colored punch by mixing Polar Blue Hawaiian Punch and yellow Hawaiian Punch (or lemonade) together. Start with the Polar Blast punch and add enough yellow punch (or lemonade) until you achieve the desired color. Then stir in some ice and you’ve got a delicious and pretty punch – that’s perfect for any mermaid!
I didn’t get a good picture of their punch but it looked very similar to the one shown above. Source
What a way to end an Under the Sea Party! Chelsea and Kenny passed out these cute and yummy party favors as their guests were leaving. They are made with Rice Krispie Treats, aqua colored frosting, little fish crackers and edible pearls for the water bubbles. Easy peasy, adorable and delicious!
