Our sweet granddaughter, Laila turned 3 years old recently and to celebrate we gave her a Hawaiian Luau Birthday Party and called it Laila’s Luau. So, in honor of our little cutie, we are sharing some fun, festive and delicious Hawaiian Luau Party Ideas!
From decorations to savory eats and sweet treats, we even have a couple of fruit punch recipes just perfect for your next spring or summertime Hawaiian Luau party!
DECORATIONS
When it comes to Hawaiian Luau Party Decorations think tropical, beachy, flowers and bright colors. And, most of all having fun with your family and friends! Here are a few decorating ideas from Laila’s 3rd birthday party and others I found online.
This was our son-in-law, Kenny’s party invitation inspiration from Etsy.
This was the front of Laila’s invitation, that Kenny created. He’s quite talented, isn’t he?
And, this was the back. We think Kenny did an awesome job and with a few beach props, he turned Laila into a cute little model!
This Pineapple Vase by Brit + Co would be so beautiful for a centerpiece.
These Pretty Painted Pineapples by Everyday Pursuits are stunning and would make beautiful centerpieces as well.
Kenny and Chelsea were very fortunate to have a friend let them borrow some Hawaiian decorations. Shown here are some Hawaiian Leis hanging on their pantry door, a tall palm tree, an umbrella and a floral cutout.
We used brightly colored table clothes, paper, and plastic ware, for easy cleanup and to add more color to the tables. We put tiki torches and beach pails with shovels (the party favors) on top of the cabinets to add a little style, and to keep them away from the kids.
FOOD
We kept the menu simple by serving lots of fresh fruit, some tasty munchies and delicious pizzas (not shown here).
These Little Flip Flop Sandwiches are the cutest idea from Pretti Mini. And, you can make them with an assortment of lunch meats, cheeses and spreads, the possibilities are endless!
Slow Cooker Pineapple BBQ Meatballs by The Handy Foodie look amazing, and the flavors sing the praises of the tropics.
Our delicious and Easy Slow Cooker BBQ Ribs have only two ingredients, they literally fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. Just put the ribs and bbq sauce in the slow cooker, set it and walk away. Boom – entertaining made easy!
This Hawaiian Slaw by Platings And Pairings is crispy and has fresh island flavors. I love the colors of this dish, they’re so pretty.
Hawaiian Chicken Kebabs by Cooking Classy are colorful, sweet and savory too!
DESSERTS
This was our Hawaiian Pineapple Cake Inspiration from Kara’s Party Ideas. So simple but absolutely adorable at the same time.
This was Laila’s birthday cake frosted, along with the cupcakes, using a star tip and our smooth and creamy best buttercream frosting. For pretty decorating tips check out this post here.

Here we are…me, Laila, their sweet little foster girl, and John.
We gave out these fun little buckets to all the kids as they were leaving the party. Kenny saw this cute saying on Pinterest and bought the beach pails with shovels at the Dollar Tree.
