We traveled to Washington state by car the beginning of August and went through 8 different states before we hit the border. The trip was a little over 2,300 miles from our home in Michigan but we made it here safely.
We really enjoy being with Chelsea, Kenny, and their 2 kids. We go to the park almost every morning and in this picture, Laila and I are sitting on the “Big Rocks” for a selfie.
This was Aiden’s first time at the movies and we saw Minions. He laughed through the whole movie and absolutely loved it!
Here Laila and Papa are making their first log cabin with his antique Lincoln logs. And the little double logs on the outside are campfires, Laila said.
One day we went to the spray park and both Laila and Aiden really enjoyed it!
We’ve also been busy in the kitchen and made our ‘One and Only’ Carrot Cake (twice), our Classic Meat and Cheese Lasagna, an Easy Skillet Mexican Corn (which would be perfect for Labor Day) and some Dark Chocolate Energy Clusters that are not only delicious but are a healthier snack too.
So, how was your August? Are the kids back to school? Or perhaps you have a child going to college for the first time? Oh, that’s a hard one. But, it does get better, so hang in there.

Barb says on Mom’s Sloppy Joes with Chicken Gumbo Soup
I’ve made these several times. We love them. I usually brown the ground beef ahead of time and have it in the freezer for lots of recipes. So it’s quick too. I do add chili powder, and I broil the buns with garlic butter on them.
